The journey from Makkah to Madinah is a deeply spiritual and historically significant experience for Muslims, as it allows pilgrims to follow in the footsteps of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
In this detailed guide, we will walk you through the various transportation options, practical tips, and essential considerations for traveling between these two holy cities in Saudi Arabia.
Selecting the Right Time to Travel:
Before embarking on your journey from Makkah to Madinah, it’s essential to choose the right time. Normally when we travel we will always try to plan it ina way that we arrive in Madinah according to the check-in time of the hotel we have booked.
By Train
The Haramain train is one of the best ways to travel from Makkah to Madinah, it is also one of the safest and most convenient options as it is very quick.
The price of the ticket is not cheap by Saudi standards but by European standards, it is a good value considering the benefits of comfort, speed, and safety you have. The tickets were easy to book online and they email you an E ticket that you do not need to print.
The main thing to keep in mind is that when you travel by train they only let you take 1 piece of luggage onto the train,
The new train services have made it incredibly easy and most importantly safe to move between Makkah and Madinah. The trains are well kept, safe and fast and for me, this has to be one of the best fastest ways of traveling between the two holy cities.
Traveling on the train takes approx 2 hours and 30 minutes.

By Coach
Traveling by coach is probably the cheapest option however it probably takes the longest time too. If you choose to travel by public coaches it could take you anything between 6 and 7 hours.
The coaches are run by a company called Saptco and they have some good VIP coaches. You can book tickets on the Saptco website or by visiting the coach station in Makkah.
This is a good way of traveling if you are on a budget.
Taxi or Private Vehicle
This a very convenient way of traveling as you are in charge and can dictate your time of departure and also stops.
The journey can take approx 5 hours however some of the scenery on the way is breathtaking. If you are lucky you may also see monkeys on the way.
